We at Malcolm-Che will never forget when the entire Narcotics Unit of the New Haven Police Department was brought down by the Feds.  We had always heard about the corrupt police in New Haven, but we assumed it was just the same as every other city in America.  Little did we know that the whole unit was about to go down.

We covered the story of the only person – Norval Falconer – to file suit against the city of New Haven because evidence got planted on him (his original criminal case was dismissed after the narcotics unit went down).  And in that story we read that, “New Haven State’s Attorney Michael Dearington said… his office has found no additional cases tainted by police misconduct.”  Really, so Falconer is the ONLY person that they planted evidence on?!?!  We don’t think so.  But let’s look at another quote from that article:

“[Falconer's attorney] Polan said in the suit that Falconer was charged with eight drug-related crimes and jailed when he was unable to make bail. Falconer pleaded guilty to reduced charges in December after being advised by a court appointed lawyer that it was the only way he could get out of jail for Christmas, Polan said.”

This is the American “justice” system at work!  He gets drugs planted on him (by the cops) and his court-appointed lawyer tells him to just plead guilty!  The sad thing is that there are plenty of people locked up by these crooked cops, and these “criminals” got way more time then the cops did.  Once again we say:  the cops are the most powerful gang on the streets.  And now the NARC department is back on the streets, hooray for “justice.”  They can continue their forever-failing ‘War on Drugs,’ which is in actuality an assault on us.

According to this new article below there are ‘checks and balances’ in place to make sure corruption doesn’t happen.  We at Malcolm-Che know this means nothing, there are so many ways they can get around the system it just doesn’t matter.  They will have to fly off the handle – like the former narcotics department did – for someone to bring charges against them.  If they maintiain their corruption and brutality at a ’suitable’ level then it will be supported and sustained.

New Haven’s narcotics unit back to work

New Haven (WTNH) – A corruption scandal led to its un-raveling. But tonight, the New Haven Police Department’s Narcotics Squad is back in action.

So what’s in store for its future?

New Haven’s police chief put it bluntly: the new narcotics unit has a lot to prove.

“They have an opportunity to really prove they can to it right,” Chief James Lewis said.

There was a lot wrong with the narcotics unit two years ago; a federal corruption probe led to the arrest and convictions of the unit’s lieutenant and two officers.

The unit disbanded with the state police taking over, running drug stings in the city.

The scandal revealed a poor evidence tracking system making it possible for money and drugs to disappear.

There are new rules for this reborn narcotics unit. “So we put into place checks and balances; no one can pay an informant without several checks,” Chief Lewis said. “Money has to be counted by multiple people as do seizures of narcotics, so the whole method is completely different.”

News Channel 8 wanted to take a look at the new narcotics unit but it is no longer located at the headquarters; it’s in a building somewhere else in the city and the chief won’t tell us where.

With New Haven back in charge of its drug unit, the chief is expecting residents to help provide information to root out drug dealers.

“Many more people addressing the issue; we think better communication with the community, and internally, and better documentation,” Chief Lewis said.

Newly trained detectives also have two specially trained drug sniffing dogs.

Narcotics officers are meeting Tuesday morning with the chief as well as state and federal prosecutors.
